13 injured and 2 dead in Dominase Accident; driver ignores warning for talking on phone

13 people are receiving treatment at the hospital whilst two people have been reported to have died in an accident at Dominase on the Ahwiankwanta road in the Ashanti Region.

The accident happened at dawn on Tuesday, November 17, 2020.

The incident happened when a Sprinter bus with registration number, GE 6097 -17 travelling to Kumasi from Manso run into a timber truck with registration number, GE 2345-Y which was abandoned for five days after it broke down.

Chief Inspector David Amofa of the Bekwai MTTD Commander, confirmed the accident to some reporters saying “We also heard it this dawn. We proceeded to the hospital, it was a breakdown tipper truck which had been abandoned on the road five days ago and then the sprinter too was coming from Manso-Nkwanta fully loaded with passengers.”

“According to some of the passengers, on their way, the driver’s concentration was on his phone. He was on phone conversing with some people, they said they warned him severally but he ignored the advice. Unfortunately, he crushed into the stationary tipper truck. At the moment two people have died and the rest have been rushed to SDA Dominase hospital for treatment. So currently about 13 people are at Dominase SDA hospital, receiving treatment.” he also said.

The Chief Inspector also said the driver of Sprinter bus bolted after the accident and the police are in search of him.

Investigations have since started in the accident.
