President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo says he made a mistake when he said he never promised the people of Cape Coast a harbour.

To that end, the President has apologised to the Chiefs and people of Cape Coast in the Central Region for the blunder.

Speaking on Cape Coast-based Eagle FM as part of his tour of the region on Monday, 18 October 2021, the President said his government did not promise to construct a harbour but rather a landing site as captured in the 2020 manifesto earmarked for execution in 2022.

“I never said I was going to build a harbour in Cape Coast. I said I was going to build a landing site like what I’ve done in these six other places in the Central Region. Cape Coast will also have its landing site, and the construction of that will start next year,” he stated.

This statement got the people of the region angry with some arguing that the president had deceived them.

But speaking on Accra-based Peace FM on Thursday, 21 October 2021, Nana Akufo-Addo admitted he made an error and apologised.

“Let me confess, I made a mistake on the Cape Coast” he said.

However, he noted that the promise to build a harbour must be reconsidered because “even with the mistake, we cannot have a harbour at Takoradi and Elmina and have another one at Cape Coast”.

“But I have to apologise to the people of Cape Coast,” he stressed, adding that “Presidents are humans and can make mistakes”.
