EC to reopen for new registration on October 1 for specific groups

Share the Story

The Electoral Commission is set to reopen registration on October 1, 2020 for specific groups of people who could not register in August.

The specific groups are people who were on mandatory quarantine for 14 days and could not register, people that could not register due to COVID-19 restrictions and finally those who were not captured in voters register but have the ID cards issued to them.

The exercise will take place in all district offices of the EC nationwide and it will start at 7am and end at 6pm.

Earlier yesterday, the issue was raised at the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting with the EC but both leading political parties argued that if such people are registered, they will not be eligible to vote in the December elections. National Democratic Congress’ Director of IT,  Kwame Osei Agyeman-Griffiths also wondered if the EC will also organize a new exhibition exercise for such voters.
