The Electoral Commission will start the exhibition of the Voters Register today across 33,367 registration centers in the country from 7am to 6pm each day. This is the final stage of the cleaning of the register.
This is in accordance with regulations 22(1) and 23(1) of C.I. 91, which enjoined the EC to compile a provisional voters register for each polling station, indicating the particulars and photographs of each person whose application was received and accepted during the registration process. The regulation also requires the EC to display the register for public inspection.
Ahead of the exhibition, 5,000 biometric identification devices have been available in the various centers as well as a mobile team. 73,107 officials have been deployed to center to ensure the exercise is successful.
The EC prior to this exercise has registered 16,983,306 exceeding the 15 million expected by the end of the registration on August 9, 2020. 37,762 people have been challenged and out of that 6,080 have been challenged for multiple registration.
The Chairperson, Mrs. Jean Mensah has urged electorates to actively participate in the exercise.
“As it stands now, the register is only provisional until the exhibition is completed; therefore, all registered voters must go and check their records because, if for nothing at all, the verification of details is important,”.
Voters can also check their details by texting the Identification Number (ID) to the short code 1422 at a service charge of 30ps. The exercise will end on the 25 September, 2020.
