Gambia polls: Mahama arrives in Banjul to lead electoral observer mission

Former President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Banjul Gambia ahead of the country’s Saturday, 4 December polls.

Mr Mahama who arrived in Banjul on the night of Monday, 29 November 2021.

He will be leading the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa-EISA observer mission during the country’s polls.  

In a Facebook Post on Tuesday, 30 November 2021, Mr Mahama wrote: “I arrived in Banjul on Monday night to lead the Electoral Institute for Sustainable Democracy in Africa – EISA Election Observation Mission to the December 4 Gambian Presidential Election”.

He added: “A while ago, I flagged-off our team of observers who are leaving to various parts of The Gambia.”

Six candidates will be contesting the 4 December polls including President Adama Barrow.

The election will be the first in 27years to exclude the former Gambian leader, Yahya Jammeh. 

Mr Jammeh refused to concede defeat in the elections 5years ago.
