Minister of Communication, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful had said Ghanaians should embrace digital payments for a secure, convenient and low-cost financial service delivery through the Universal QR Code payment system.
She said her ministry in collaboration with the National Cyber Security Centre is working to ensure a fraud-free digital payment infrastructure in Ghana.
Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia launched the Universal QR code of payment on Thursday, 19, 2020. He used it to buy local food ‘Waakye’ at Aunty Muni’s in Accra.
The Universal Quick Response (QR) allows customers to make instant payment for goods and services from various fund resource (bank accounts, mobile money, cards) by scanning a quick response code on a smartphone, or dialing the USSD Code of the payment service provider and following the prompts to pay.
Ghana becomes the first country in Africa to implement a such a payment system.
