John Dramani Mahama in recent times has come under fire for sharing a post on Facebook by Isaac Adongo with the caption ‘Agyapa Royalties Fraud Is The Last Straw: The Akyem Sakawa Boys and Grandpas must Go’.
He however tried to explained that he was calling the people of Akyem as Sakawa Boys but was reiterating the arguments on the Agyapa deal by the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo in his article on Facebook.
Recently, a group of youths from Akyem calling themselves the Concerned Citizens of Akyem held a protest calling the former president to retract his comments and apologize.
Speaking on Class FM’s Executive Breakfast Show, Mr. Mahama said he was only rehashing the cogent points. He further said he has “never ever discriminated or talked to somebody based on their ethnic origin.”
On the threats by the Akyem youth to ban him from campaigning on the land, Mr. Mahama said “Nobody bans anybody. Let’s not even go there because if other people ban others, what country are we going to have?” adding that: “I have not abused Akyem people. Indeed, like I said, there are many Akyem people in my party so why will I say anything insulting to them?”
