The Ex-President and Flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress, (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has said that he will maintain the Special Prosecutor and not change him for some political reasons.
He said the main reason why he will maintain Martin Amidu because of the court’s ruling on his eligibility hence the court decides on the tenure of his office.
“I think that the matter went to court and the court ruled on it – his eligibility to be the Special Prosecutor – so, the law decides his tenure and all that. We’ll see how things go”
He also said that he will wait on the court to decide on whether he will stay or leave his office.
“We’ll not seek to change him for political reasons but his contract and what the law says are what will determine whether he stays in office or not”.
Mr. Mahama was speaking on Class Fm’s Executive Breakfast Show on Monday, September 14, 2020.
In May, this year the Supreme Court ruled that Martin Amidu was eligible to occupy the office of the Special Prosecutor after the former Deputy Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine challenge his appointment since he was 66 years old passing the mandatory retirement age of 60 for public officers.
