It’s too early to chase titles – King Faisal coach

Head Coach of Kumasi-based King Faisal Nuredeen Amadu

The Head Coach of Kumasi-based King Faisal, Mr Nuredeen Amadu, believes it is too early to consider his side as title contenders with high hopes of winning the Ghana Premier League trophy this season.

Despite having a very impressive start to the season and leading the league table, Nuredeen values his squad as a young team that will require some time to mature fully, hence setting the goal to win the league this season is quite premature to him.

His statement contradicts the vision of club owner Alhaji Grusah, who believes and has stated that his team has the potential to win the league at the end of the season.

“I still believe that it is too early for any club to lay hands on the fact that you can win the league because we still have a long way to go”, Nurudeen said, adding: “If you are not lucky that your players are tired and you are not able to rotate them, it can affect you”.

“We believe that we are a young club, we are doing well but we are not there yet”, he said on the chances of his side winning the league.

King Faisal narrowly escaped relegation last season and have been able to turn things around this season.

They are the leaders of the Ghana Premier League after game week 7 with 16 points.

They are two points clear from second-placed Aduana Stars and 3 points from city rivals Kotoko, who have a match in hand against Accra Hearts of Oak.

The league leaders have won 5 out of their seven opening games, losing and drawing just once.

They are the only team that have beaten title contenders Kotoko since the start of the season.

King Faisal will be playing away to 13th-placed Accra Lions in their next Ghana Premier League game.
