Ghanaian artistes need urgent support from government institutions to help project Ghana’s brand to the world, Jemila Abdulai, founder of Circumspecte has said.

Abdulai’s call comes as the country struggles to project a unique identity that the people can connect with as Ghana’s brand following the collapse of the Brand Ghana office.

Speaking as a panellist at this year’s Ghana Action Forum on Thursday (3 March) in Accra, Abdulai said supporting Ghanaians to project the country’s brand will come with enormous benefits.

“We do have people who are telling stories. I think it is just the question of on what magnitude, what level of attention are they getting? The digital landscape for example is a fresh of breath air when it comes to creative story telling,” she said.

“However, there are so many people who are using theatre, film, fashion, music to tell the Ghanaian story, but what most of them need; they already have the ideas, they are already doing the work, what most of them need is that institutional support.”

“For instance, we have Chief Moomen, who is into theatre production, and in a recent conversation, he’s  mentioned as well, he is looking to tell the story of Africa’s richest man Mansa Musa in creative theatre and yet he is having a hard time finding the necessary support to do that. If Ghana was able to do that and have him take that production across Africa, what will that do for Ghana,” Abdulai added.
