Messi ‘Banned’ From Barcelona Training…

Lionel Messi posted a picture of himself sipping cocktails with Luis Suarez as reports emerged that he is ‘banned’ from Barcelona training.

The Argentine has been a free agent since July 1 but is expected to sign fresh terms on a new deal before the start of the La Liga season.

Reports last month indicated that Messi was prepared to take a 50 percent pay cut and sign a new five-year deal with Barcelona.

But with less than two weeks until the Catalan club get their campaign underway, the 34-year-old’s future is still up in the air – not that Messi seems particularly fazed by the whole affair.

Fresh from winning the Copa America with Argentina, Messi uploaded a picture to Instagram of himself and team-mate Luis Suarez enjoying a couple of cocktails beside a pool in Ibiza.

Messi, sporting a pair of orange shorts with starfishes on, looked happy as Larry next to the Uruguayan, himself wearing a pair of Mickey Mouse shorts.

Barcelona will probably be hoping that Messi is doing plenty of lengths in the pool because he cannot train with the club until his contract is signed, according to AS.

It remains unclear when a new deal will be formally announced by the Catalan club as Messi is currently on an extended break after his exploits in the Copa America.

Messi captained Argentina to the title in South America as they beat hosts Brazil 1-0 in the Maracana.

Remarkably, it was the forward’s first international trophy and Argentina’s first Copa America triumph since 1993.

His record for his country pales in comparison to his club career for Barcelona, where he has won six Ballon d’Or trophies, 10 La Liga titles and four Champions League crowns.

He has played 767 games for the Catalan side in all competitions and is the club’s all-time leading scorer with 709 goals to his name.

Barca boss Ronald Koeman will be hoping he can add to those incredible tallies in the season ahead, but Messi still needs to sign a new deal first.
