NDC holds JJ vigil tomorrow, begins immediate funeral activities

The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has said it will hold a vigil in memory of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, who died on Thursday, 12 November 2020 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where he was being treated for an illness.

The Sunday, 15 November vigil will be held at the Obra Spot in Accra, from 5 pm to midnight, a statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, announced.

The party said it is in “deep shock” over Mr Rawlings’ death, adding: “We honour the life of this bold, courageous, and outspoken icon, who was driven by a deep love for his country and the downtrodden.”

The statement said the party has also “resolved to begin the funeral activities” for its founder “immediately and continue through till his burial”.

It noted that the party’s offices will also be draped in red and black, and party flags will fly at half-mast during our period of mourning”.

The Political Committee of the NDC, at its meeting on Friday, 13 November, also directed that all the party’s regions, constituencies, and branches should organise appropriate funeral-related activities at their various levels.
