Armed policemen on the alert

The Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces have pledged to investigate Friday’s attack on the Suame police station in the Ashanti Region by some soldiers.

The soldiers stormed the police station in an attempt to free one of their plain-clothed colleagues who was arrested by the police for riding an unregistered motorbike on Friday, 29 October 2021.

The situation caused a stand-off between personnel of the two security agencies.

In a joint statement, however, the two institutions said they have “commenced a full-scale investigation into the incident, and anyone found culpable will be dealt with administratively and according to law”.

“The two security institutions are committed to a harmonious relationship and will not condone any proven act of wrongdoing of personnel”, the statement added.

“We want to assure the general public of our unflinching commitment to peace, security and harmony in the country.”
