Convention People’s Party National Youth Organizer, Osei Kofi Acquah says the Electoral Commission must review the cost of filing for nomination accusing them of selling the offices to the highest bidder.
The EC announced yesterday that the filing fee of GHC 100,000 for presidential candidates and GHC 10,000 for parliamentary candidates. This the CPP Youth Organizer thinks is too high.
Mr. Osei thinks the filing fee should be reduced to GHC 300, 000. He said “Reducing the parliamentary filing fees to at least 3,000 thousand Ghana cedis would have clearly distinguished the difference between the Charlotte Osei led administration and Jean Mensa’s administration, but it is clear that the electoral commission has also bought in the idea that leadership is for the well to do…”
He also said that the filing fee is rather deterring the competent candidates away from developing the country and giving way to the rich candidates.
Mr. Osei said instead of a multi-party democracy, the electoral commission is encouraging a duo-political system in the country.
