The Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress, Kakra Essamuah has called on the President to personally respond to the allegations of a bribery video.
A video circulating on social media purports the President received an amount $40,000 bribe from Adjei Bawuah, Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States of America, on behalf of the Director of Urban Roads, Alhaji Abass, to allegedly save the latter’s job.
Speaking press conference in Accra on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, Mr Essamuah said “The President must personally speak to it… I am urging him, I am demanding that, I want to hear his voice. He must come and absolve himself. This is the least I expect from you [the media] and I know that you will do your patriotic duty to call upon him and come and answer why he took $40,000 as bribe.”
Also at the same press conference, Ketu South MP, Fifi Kwetey said this was the latest evidence of corruption under President Akufo-Addo’s administration.
“Can you imagine if President Rawlings were caught on tape receiving $40,000 in bribes? Can you imagine what would happen in this country… Can you imagine if President Mahama was caught on tape receiving a $40,000 bribe?” he questioned.
