Dr. Henry Herbert Lartey has said that his party is ready to pay the filling fee set by the Electoral Commission for presidential candidate.
The Electoral Commission a few days ago announced GHC100,000 and GHC10,000 from presidential and parliamentary candidates respectively.
Several political parties have expressed their disappointment saying the EC did not take into consideration the times the country is in especially when COVID-19 has brought lots of hardship to Ghanaians. Some of the parties are the Convention People’s Party (CPP), All People’s Congress (APC), National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Progressive People’s Party (PPP).
But speaking after his acclamation as the Flagbearer of the Great Consolidated Popular Party, Dr. Henry Lartey said “If the EC comes up with a policy we have to abide by it. If they say we should pay GHS100,000 [as filing fee], we will pay it. They have been generous to a point when it comes to parliamentarians. Was it not GHS10,000 filing fee they charged the last time, and they have not increased that fee? So, if they say we should pay GHS100,000 we will pay it.”
Dr. Lartey also said the party will use its policy of domestication to garner votes.
