Many supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akwatia Constituency in the Eastern region continue to mount pressure upon the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) for the area to contest the December 7 election as an independent candidate.
The MP, Grace Ama Gyamfi alias Ama Sey, a hairdresser by occupation, was beaten in the recent primaries of the party by a young lawyer, Ernest Yaw Kumi.
However supporters of the MP have actually maintained that some leading executives of the NPP schemed against her. Mr Kumi won by 4 ballots.
At a health walk held on Sunday, September 7, 2020, by supporters of Ama Sey, thousands of them thronged the area to proclaim their assistance for the MP to contest as an independent candidate.
They claim that Ama Sey has not disappointed Akwatia Constituency after assuming office as MP for the area. They counted a number of developmental projects carried out by the MP as well as her presence in the Constituency such as attending to numerous events organized by the people.
According to them, NPP will certainly lose the seat at Akwatia threatening that they will vote ‘skirt and blouse’.
