The Ghana Health Service and the Ghana Education Service have lockdown the Achimota School following the detection of the COVID-19 Delta variant in the school.
School authorities have also been directed not to allow any person visit the school nor allow anybody out of the school for the next two weeks.
This follows after 135 students test positive for the strain of the virus on campus.
The Director of GES, Prof Kwesi Opoku Amankwa has called on parents and guardians not to panic .
“I want to assure the entire country, especially for parents who have their wards in Achimota that every measure has been taken to ensure that we contain the spread of the virus,” he said.
The Director of Public Health at GHS, Dr. Franklin Asiedu Bekoe also in an interview said day students of the school should stay home for the next two weeks.
“We are not going to allow any visitation in the school for the next two weeks. The day students are going to be kept at home for the next two weeks, while those who are positive [for COVID-19] are going to be kept in isolation,” he told Joy News.
