The Deputy Minister of Information, Mr. Pius Enam Hadzide has described Former President and flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama’s calls for a debate with President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo- Addo as childish and pointless.
Mr. John dramani Mahama earlier in the week while addressing residents in the Ketu South constituency on as part of his tour to the Volta Region said he is ready to face President Akufo-Addo in an open debate on achievements.
“I am willing to present myself for a debate with President Akufo-Addo any day, anytime, anywhere. And we will settle the matter once and for all,” he said.
In his address he chided the NPP saying, “In 2016, when I was talking of the value of infrastructure my people on the other said we don’t eat infrastructure nor roads”.
“Today I can see a scramble for even KVIPs and any infrastructure and tout it as an achievement,” he added
Mr. Mahama’s call comes as response to Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s presentation at a Town Hall Meeting where he launched a website to track government achievement especially in the infrastructural development
However, Mr. Pius Enam Hadzide speaking with GBC’s radio in an interview on the programme “Behind the News” said If the President was to seek his advice he would say the invitation is ‘pointless, childish and unnecessary’.
According to him, the debate is already ongoing hence if Mr. Mahama has anything to say, he can share with the people of Ghana who already know how best the Akufo-Addo government is doing.
The Deputy information minister noted that Former President John Mahama’s call is a strategy is to help him run away from the already ongoing debate and also to escape the argument in public.
“The Vice President has set out a debate so if you say that unless Nana Akufo Addo come and sit in a chair in front of you, you won’t account to the people of Ghana then that is rather childish”, Mr. Hedzide said.
He further continued by saying the flagbearer of the NDC John Dramani Mahama’s action must be condemned by all people.

“It is very disrespect for him to adopt that attitude. If he doesn’t have a record to share, at least I think the honest thing to do is, he must admit to the people of Ghana that he has nothing to offer”, he adds.
