Pollster, Ben Ephson says the filing fee that the Electoral Commission announced yesterday is okay and sees nothing wrong with it.
The EC announced yesterday, Monday September 14, 2020, that the filing fee for presidential and parliamentary candidates fee is GHC 100,000 and 10,000 respectively.
This did not go down well with some political parties including the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Convention Peoples Party (CPP) and the Progressive Peoples Party will some calling for the reduction of the fee.
But Ben Ephson supporting the EC said “I think that if the smaller parties will be a bit more focused, they can join resources but everyone wants to do their own thing. I think the amount is okay. We have a number of mushroom parties who field a number of individuals so basically if you are a party who has been running your office for the whole year, you’ll find ways of paying the GH¢100,000. Even if you have the GH¢100,000 to pay, you have must a presence. You must meet the EC’s criteria of being a functional political party.”
He was speaking to Starr FM’s breakfast show ‘Morning Starr’.
