The Electoral Commission will reopen parliamentary nominations for the Yapei-Kusawgu constituency the Savanna Region following the death of the New Patriotic Party aspirant, Abu Kamara.
The EC’s reopening of nomination for the area is due Regulations 13, Subregulation (4) of Public Elections Regulations, 2020 (C.I 127) which says “Where at the close of nominations, but before the election, one of the candidate dies, a further period of 10 days shall be allowed for nominations.”
The EC in statement said “Any person who intends to contest for the Parliamentary Election should send his or her filled Nomination Forms to the Returning Officer of the Yapei/ Kusawgu Constituency, at the Yapei/ Kusawgu District Office of the Electoral Commission on the dates stated above. The Returning Officer shall receive all Nominations between the hours of 7.00 am and 5.00 pm for the two days.”
Mr. Abu Kamara died in a road accident on Friday, October 16, 2020 when he was returning from a trip with his campaign members.
However, his brother, Iddrisu Salia Kamara as been chosen as a replacement to contest in the elections.
