Citizens of Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area yesterday demonstrated former Head of state John Mahama for his “Akyem Sakawa Boys” remarks in reference to the Agyapa Deal.
The locals defined the comment as ethnocentric, just as President Nana Akufo-Addo also classified it throughout his meeting with Catholic Bishops Conference.
The natives numbering over 5000 dressed in red and black clothes gathered at Asamankese yesterday, Wednesday, to start the demo with some wielding placards birthing engravings such as “Mahama is shameless; Mahama stop these insults and JM enough is enough you are warned”.
The demonstrators are demanding that the former Head of state withdraws the alleged ethnocentric remarks as well as apologise to people of Akyem and Ghana as a whole.
Mr. Mahama recently shared an article by Bolgatanga Central Constituency MP, Isaac Adongo title: “Agyapa Royalties Fraud Is The Last Straw: The Akyem Sakawa Boys and Grandpas Must Go” in which he described President Akufo-Addo’s tenure as one of friends and family and identified them as “Akyem Mafia” and also “Akyem Sakawa Boys.”
Sakawa is a defamatory term frequently utilized of internet fraudsters.
In a meeting with the Asamankesehene, Barima Kesse Bediako III, he claimed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and also the previous Head of state would be barred from holding any kind of political campaigns in the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Area ahead of the December polls, ought to he stop working to withdraw as well as apologise.
