One of the disqualified presidential candidate, Kofi Koranteng has appealed to the President, Nana Akufo-Addo to tell the Electoral Commission to do the right thing by reversing its decision.
He said the President known for touting Ghana’s democratic credentials hence he needs to speak to the EC about his disqualification.
Speaking a press conference yesterday, October 29, 2020, Mr Koranteng said “he does not think the EC is being truly democratic. It is not telling the EC to put Kofi Koranteng back on the ballot. It is telling the EC to do the right thing which he [President Akufo-Addo] has a responsibility to do. We are not asking the President to do favours for us. We are asking the president to charge the EC do what they need to do.”
He also said this is the President’s test of leadership.
“If he really believes in democracy, this is the time where he steps in with his administration to say the [EC’s] process has been undemocratic.”
However, Mr. Koranteng said he is considering any legal action against the EC.
“We want the EC to see how obviously wrong they have been in the process for them to step back. That is why we have been apprehensive in pulling the legal cord.”
Kofi Koranteng was part of the five presidential candidates that were disqualified to contest the 2020 elections.
Mr. Koranteng was disqualified on the basis of forgery and has since been referred to the Police.
