The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has visited the fire scene at the Kantamanto market, which was razed by fire on Tuesday evening.
Arriving at the scene, he described the situation as ‘human tragedy’.
Speaking to the media, the Vice President said “It is a tragedy. It is a situation that makes us all very sad. Their day to day means of living has been taken away by this fire.”
“The lives and the livelihood of the people cannot really await an investigation. Those are more immediate and so we are going to be looking at how to provide assistance.” he stressed.
Dr Bawumia has also arranged a meeting with the leadership of the market on Friday, December 18, 2020 , to discuss how the market can be reconstructed.

He also assured the traders that had their goods destroyed of government’s support saying it is exploring “some type of business support to these shop owners to be able to restart their businesses.”
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was in the company of the Minister for Interior, Ambrose Dery, Minister for National Security, Albert Kan Dapaah, Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ishmael Ashitey and other government officials.
