Former President, John Mahama has said that Ghana belongs to all of us regardless of our ethnic backgrounds and nobody can claim a part of the country.
The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress said if we allow a group to secede, there will nothing left for the country.
“Our father Rawlings put Ghana together. We are all part of the nation Ghana: Ewes, Bonos, Asantes, Dagombas, Fantes. We make up the nation Ghana as one people and, so, we won’t sit aloof for any group to say they want to secede. If we allowed every group to secede one after the other from the unitary state, what would be left of the country?” he questioned.
He said what us unique is our identity as Ghanaians and that is why the NDC is unique because it does discriminate against people.
“What unites all of us is that we identify ourselves as Ghanaians and what makes the NDC unique is that we don’t discriminate based on ethnic affiliations. NDC governments always unite the citizenry” John Mahama added.
He was speaking at Jinijini in the Bono Region as part of his tour in the region on the happenings in the Volta Region where roads were blocked and just yesterday, two drivers were kidnapped and an STC bus burnt by some members suspected to belong to the secessionists group, Homeland Study Foundation.
31 people have been arrested and remanded by an Accra Circuit Court.
