The Presiding Bishop of the Perez Chapel International, Bishop Charles Agyinasare has condemned the use of firearms on civilians by security personnel in the just ended presidential and parliamentary elections.
He said nobody needs to die because of elections and therefore calls for proper investigations in the incidents that have led to the deaths of some citizens.
Addressing the congregation at Perez Chapel International, Bishop Charles Agyinasare said “Nobody needs to die because of an election. We, therefore, condemn the use of firearms on unarmed civilians. We ask that proper investigations be conducted in the deaths of people who wanted to defend their vote”.
“Democracy is not war. Christians must continue to pray for peace to prevail.” he added.
He also congratulated the President, Nana Akufo-Addo on his re-election and urged former President John Mahama, who contested the elections on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress, to contest the results in a peaceful manner.
“In 2012, when a similar thing happened, it was not easy in this country. A number of people have already lost their lives”, Bishop Agyinasare noted.
