The Ghana Health Services (GHS) in the Savannah region has issued an alert to all adjourning districts in the region to be on the lookout for yellow fever disease whilst the GHS puts measures to contain the outbreak.
The Regional Director Dr. Chrysantus Kubio said 14 persons so far have died from the virus whilst 22 are still on admission at the West Gonja Catholic Hospital in the Damongo district. Seventeen other persons have been treated and discharged.
Speaking to Class FM, Dr. Kubio advised residents to report early traces of the disease to the health facilities.
Meanwhile, some residents of the Canteen electoral area in the West Gonja Municipality of the region are in fear as more people have died from a presumptive yellow fever outbreak in the area.
This came after some 14 people died through the virus in two districts – North Gonja and West Gonja.
Some residents who spoke to Class FM are calling on the government through the Ghana Health Service to make available enough vaccines for people in the affected communities to be vaccinated.
